                              The Story of Goddess Coins

Many moons ago, back in 1990's, at the Crossroads Learning Center in Seattle, Washington, a group of Tantric Yoga students were initiated into a Hindu practice for Dhaneshwari, a left hand Goddess of Prosperity.   Part of the practice involved giving a coin to Dhaneshwari.  We came up with the idea of making coins in my metal studio - with the yantra on one side, the mantra on the other.  The first  Mantra/Yantra Medallions were born - hand carved in wax and cast in Sterling Silver.  Since then, the coins have gone through various incarnations as I refine the process and expand the pantheon of Goddesses.  Goddess Coins can be used to call a Goddess energy to you and from inside you.

I have been making the Aphrodite Coins for  years now, but as of 2008 she was joined by Athena, aka Minerva. Athena can be seen with her helmet, spear and her totem familiar, Bubo the Owl. These Olympian sisters are soon to be joined by Artemis, aka Dianna.   I make some Sterling Silver and others with Bronze.  The words  "In Goddess We Trust"  are on the front and  back.    Along with the name and year on the back in the middle,  the upper ring reads "If We Build It She Will Come."   They weigh slightly less than an ounce,  and the outer edge is polished to a smooth finish that feels wonderful in your hand.

The coins are  made in small batches using the Lost Wax Casting method.  Unlike  coins that are minted  with a press, coins that are cast have unique characteristics that can make them more valuable over time.    I rarely do more than 20 per year thus far - making these very limited runs.   Some older coins are available.  The 2008-9  edition is the last year I  made any coins with an outer rim, most notable on the Aphrodite coin below, farthest to the right.  The process is evolving and the story is unfolding.  I see Goddess Coins as a symbol for bringing  Goddess consciousness into this reality and  for giving it the  value it deserves.
